At 5am on the 11th of November 1918, three German government representatives accepted the Armistice terms presented to them by an allied commander, General Foch of the French Army. The demands of the Armistice included the withdrawal of German forces to the east bank of the Rhine within 30 days; immediate cessation of warfare; and surrender of the German fleet and all heavy guns with no further negotiations until the signing of the peace treaty.

The armistice became effective at 11am the same day, and as the guns fell silent on the Western Front in France and Belgium, four years of hostilities ended.

World War I began in 1914 and lasted for four years. More than 416 000 Australians volunteered for service in World War I. Of these, 324 000 served overseas. More than 60 000 Australians were killed, including 45 000 who died on the Western Front in France and Belgium and more than 8 000 who died on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey.

  • Hey Oz, How are ya, My dad was born in 1916, and served in WW2, The British took alot in both world wars, but with the help of our allies such as the Aussie's an Kiwi's, we all got there, all wars should stop! The true people know what you guys did and went through, its not just our own we remember, but all you guys and other nations aswell!! All the best mate, Gaz UK!

  • I remember every sole lost. All the soldiers were doing there job, doesn't matter if they were allies or not. Every one was just doing there job. Yes I do think about the other guys who were not on our side, they thought they were doing the right thing too. They also sacrificed a lot too.

One day I will put together a video of a chat i had with an old bloke here in town that served in WWII. I just can't quite edit it right yet. He sums it up well.

  • @Eshayzbra96 You german lover jew scum bag!

  • @loog123456 And you're a stupid fuck, obviously they can't do that now unless they want to pay 500 bucks or be thrown in jail for 3 years just for showing the flag in public.

  • LIes! From 5 am to 11am on that november 11, Allied armies attacked a defeated enemy who had surrendered as we(the good guys) continued the offensive. More men were killed on the last day than on the Normandy invasion. In no way could Paul find a butterfly at Verdun on that last day. Why lie? Only one Why we fight and die. PROFIT for the banks, munitions makers, and war proffitears. Nothing else. Wars must look clean and honorable and someone has to pay for them. STOP THE PROFIT.

  • The Australians fought like hell. As for coming to the aid of the British??

Never a question about that. No way we'd let them carry all that weight by themselves.

I am Canadian...my grandad was wounded at 2nd Ypres. My father flew Lancasters with the RCAF in WW2 (the HAMMER from above). Both those old boys came home.

November 11...let's think hard about ALL our soldiers who don't.
