Watching the mighty Saturn 5 lift off was the hi-lite of the space program to me. The BBC would play Strauss' Also Spract Zarathustra to introduce the latest coverage and we sat there mesmorise. Just as we see on this video the rocket would rise up straight through the centre of our screen and the letters U..S..A would appear. I gained a great respect for America sharing this time and this history live with the world, unlike the psychotic Russians. I have never lost that respect.

It is such a sad fact that it takes conflicts to unleash the best of the human kind.

Okay, so what's the purpose of liquid oxygen? To keep the rocket cool or what?

Oxygen is a highly combustible element without which fire could not burn used by the Saturn 5 for a component of its fuel in liquid form. Oxygen turns liquid at hundreds of degrees below zero. its use as fuel for Saturn 5 is two-fold.
1. Oxygen comprises 21% of the air using it as a liquid allows for 100% purity with 5 times the burning ability
2. Oxygen forms naturally as a gas much greater volume than liquid oxygen which is easier to store uses much less space, perfect for rocket launches
