Moved here from UK July 2009. Please remember cats and dogs are rarely domesticated in Greece, they are the rats of Greece. The Greeks care for these wild animals, but not about them. In the winter we see Greeks driving around Hersonissos every day dumping food on street corners to feed these animals. Cats and dogs tamed by the tourists in the summer by an easy food source. These animals can be a real nuisance , we have seen as many as 20 around one Taberna, but the locals would not hurt them.

Our next door neighbour(Greek) travels 15 klms a day in the winter to feed cats at the apartments he manages in the summer. Not his cats, they just live there attracted by the tourists giving them food in the summer. The owners of closed Tabernas come and leave food outside for the cats during the winter. There may be exceptions here as there are in other countries, but we have only seen kindness.

And Greece may actually have some bad things..like a lot of litter etc. But it also has many things you haven't seen in your life.Gorgerous beaches and amazing views. The sounds of the nature are so magicall that you can't even believe it..the weather is always perfect for whatever you wanna do..Like we use to say '' Let's party the whole day long''

Blackpool as in the Norse name for the present day Dublin? Hersonissos is Dublin, but with sun? Interesting comparison ..pull me a pint of Guinness to drink with my souvlaki, and I'll ponder on that a bit.
