    It's like something Thomas Pynchon discarded as too ridiculous.

  • Interesting idea about unions supporting the arts by offering free tickets to members. If that's an idea whose time had ever come, it is long gone now. Thanks to the right wing onslaught against the arts as "elitist", appreciation of, say, opera, ballet, or symphony concerts is now entrenched as politically incorrect amongst blue-collar workers.

    I should say *American* blue-collar workers... I'm not so sure the same holds as true for Europeans.
