In those days of Joan Crawford and Bette Davis, usually the Hollywood Moguls way of thinking was( once an actress no matter how good that she looks) hits the age of 40+, the actresses were all washed up. Done for good. How shitty is that?!!

For what it is worth, Bette Davies ( who I adore), had stated that Joan probably was the way Christina said she was in her book, because of all the terrible stress she was under back then. Specifically, she had gone through another divorce and her affair ended too. MGM fired Joan as she was box office poison. She begged for Mildred Pierce, got it and won the Oscar for it. It was Joan's swan song. After that, Joan was placed in all sorts of crap movies that did not do her talents justice.

I agree with you. How the hell would ANY of us know. And also, parents came be rotten to one kid and adorable to another. I'm not sure that 'I' actually believe EVERY detail of Christina's book, but I believe that SHE believed them all to be true. Either way, 'no smoke without fire', and I think that there was 'something there'; if there wasn't, how come both Christina AND Chrisopher were cut out of Joan's will. Just a thought. (I prefer Bette Davis, anyway. ;)

As for the "what the hell" comment... What the hell may be exactly the right response. It's obviously not a commercial endevour. It's an art film. Art is often supposed to make you say, "What the hell was that about". To make you think, examine the artist's intention and how that relates to you. Mindless films are great, I love them, but there is certainly a place for films that make you go "huh".
