In January 2005 WHFS-FM, an alternative rock radio station in Maryland, went off the air and was replaced with Latino club music. Just a few days later, many gathered in D.C. to protest this decision by Infinity Broadcasting.

  • HFS IS BACK BITCHES! 97.5 FM in Baltimore, hells to the yeah!

  • HFS 4 EVER!!!!!

  • I still miss it!

I love 98 Rock but there will always be a place in my heart for WHFS.

I'll be uploading a high quality version of this video soon. Maybe even release the raw footage.

  • HFS was dying long before Infinity shut it down.

In the fall of 2004, HFS had an Arbitron AQH of a 1.3 share. Compare that to the 9.2 share that is common to 92q and WPOC. The HFS signal covered Baltimore and DC, two cities with booming hispanic populations. It was all about money. Money drives every decision a radio station, or broadcast company makes. Infinity is not to blame. Blame the listeners for not filling out Arbitron rating cards...

  • As much as I hate to agree with you man you're probably right. But the funny thing is...have you ever received a rating card from Arbitron in the mail? I haven't.

And they're based out of Columbia here in Maryland! You'd think we'd all get them in the mail or something. The current ratings system = inaccurate. That goes for Nielsen as well.

I guess if I buy an HD radio I can get the old HFS back. Sorta.

  • You hate brown people just because we hate to work and love to make babies.

  • Choke on the BURRITOS!

  • CBS, the owners of WHFS should have flipped WJFK 106.7 to a Spanish format instead of 99.1.

  • A version of WHFS is on 94.7 HD2 in the Baltimore/Washington area, I had found it when I was flipping through my new portable HD radio, but like the station I listen to, WWMX 106.5 HD3, there are no DJs, and no ads.

  • Maybe if HFS played anything good <_<

  • OMG!! I totally forgot about 98 rock somehow!!! I can't believe I did!

But yeah I miss it too, and DC 101 as well.

  • @DCism for real
