What looks like a race between these two train is really a result of efficient operations by CSX. The leader on the right is CSX Q261-18 with a string of empty autoracks heading west to Ohio. The train on the inside is CSX Q409-17 which is heading south to Waycross GA. If the positions of the trains were reversed each could go on their way without interference. However Q409 must cross over in front of Q261 to reach the Alexandria Extension. Q409 wins the race as Q261 got the stop signal. Lead by CSX ES44DC #5285 and CW60AC #5003 Q409 proceeds ahead and once it clears Q261 continues on his way.

  • Your on the wrong side!!!!

  • @BTCRAIL101FILMS

Actually under the circumstances for one I think I was on the right side. Usually when I see a meet the near train is an autorack which totally hides the other train. This time the autorack was on the far track even though it was stopped.

  • where is this at

  • @bhellmer2005 This is in Riverdale Park MD, just outside Washington DC

Great bubba2781! This is a beautiful video because the station is beautiful and also the passing of the two trains commodities is very beautiful! You know that it is rare to see some passing of trains commodities on a line of two platforms!Graces and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Be Happy holidays!

  • @bubba2781Thanks to you Great Myth!

  • @bubba2781 Is that area where the ballast it higher in a low part of the tracks? Is there often flooding near there? The only other thing that I can think of is that the extra ballast would help drain more water away, but I really can't tell you for sure

  • @bnsfMAN93 Thats normal for that area. No work was going on and as far as I know there was no new ballast at that time.

  • Do you know why there was so much more ballast than usual there? Was there track work going on?
