The thick wire that you say it's a 10A fuse it's not a fuse. It's the series resistance that the multimeter uses to measure high current, by actually measure the voltage drop across that resistance. Usually can be seen the wire smoothed, and that is done at the factory to adjust accurately the extremely low resistance of the wire. If a multimeter has 2 inputs for current and only one internal fuse, then the unprotected input is marked as "unfused".
