Selena's dad knocked on the door and poked his head in to see her finishing her makeup. "Hey, I'm going to head out now, alright?"
Selena nodded. "Okay, dad. So am I. Amy will be here to pick me up." A day had passed and now it was New Year's Eve. It was funny how time flew so quickly. She got up and hugged her dad.
He pulled away and spoke in a fatherly tone, "No inappropriate dresses, okay? And be careful."
She put her hands on her hips and stared at her dad. "I know, dad. I barely know anyone here, I'm not trying to impress boys already." She led him out the door slightly.
"Good, and no drinking!" Her father said before the door was slammed in his face. Selena laughed and went back to doing her makeup. She added a different shades of gray, white and black pigments to her face before applying white glitter that made her brown eyes look even bigger than they were. She did a winged eyeliner and put on a neutral almost pale lipstick and glossed it with a peachy color on top. This brought out her full pink lips and made them look peachy and ready to kiss.
Not that she was going to get a New Year's kiss tonight. The thought hadn't even popped into her mind until now.
She got into her dress and did her hair before heading over to stand in the mirror. Her dress had one thick strap to her left side with a small black ribboned bow on it. The top was covered in black sequins and the bottom half of the dress was a skirt that flowed down to her mid thigh. It wasn't too high and it made her look sophisticated. She smiled in satisfaction and thanked God that she didn't overdo herself. Her hair was curled, but tied up. She looked decent, she thought to herself while tilting her head. Then she got in some gorgeous black heels and her smiled turned even bigger.
She hadn't been able to dress to impress for a long time now and she was glad she was going to this party. She deserved time to herself and time to have fun. Especially since her parents divorce.
She shook her head and pushed the thoughts away. "Tonight is your night, Sel," she said while staring at herself in the mirror. "Your night," she repeated softly.
Amy picked her up a few minutes after, arriving in a beautiful full sequined gold dress. She had her hair straightened and wore sparkly gold pumps and had some light makeup on, focusing more on her lips. They had arrived to the party and both girls pushed past the moving bodies that were dancing to the music that was blasting really loud.
People were drinking, conversing, dancing, some even kissing.
"I guess teenagers here are normal!" Selena said over the loud music.
Amy leaned in and laughed. "Very," she looked around, almost as if she were searching for somebody. "Just stay away from the older creeps," she said.
Selena nodded.
"Do you want a drink?"
"Does water count?" Selena asked. She smiled when Amy laughed.
"I'll be right back," she said before walking away, leaving Selena stranded in the middle of nowhere.
