I think that the other characters are there to make it easier on new comers to Kirby so they don't have to work on learning about each ability. Besides that I don't think any of your concerns are to big of a deal.

i like the idea of having the other characters but i think that your idea of different coloured kirby's would be cool. Maybe you can choose a mii and the corresponding colour will affect the colour of the Kirby. And you did a nice job, i liked your idea of having the other characters afftect the remaining lives. though i don't know if it is like that
