Hip Hop superstar Drake speaks to SoulCulture TV about the impact Aaliyah Dana Houghton (January 16, 1979 -- August 25, 2001) has made on his music and career and wishes the R&B princess a happy birthday on what would have been her 32nd.

"Aside from that," the chart-topping rapper-singer adds, "she just made phenomenal music and she was beautiful and she was a girl that I fell in love with early in my life -- I feel like if she was still here I would probably be pursuing her in a major way, you know, because I was truly in love with her very early on."

Props to 4nB.co.uk for the hook-up.

  • Ive alwayssss felt a connection between Drake and Aaliyah's sound! His flow is definetly influence by Aaliyah, that calming comforting vibe Aaliyah had.... Drake definetly brings that in many tracks! Esp his older LPs.

  • that beat to whatever is hot, where can i get it???

  • Truth is I respect Drake and Love Aaliyah I feel a little Aaliyah in Drakes songs I'm just glad she influenced some great artist.

  • Aww he seems like he was in love with her even though he never even met her, so he should be able to understand how females who haven't met him fall in love with him :)

  • @ArtisticRemedy101 top comment oh word? well, back to this. Excuse me, let's talk mixtapes then. I mean ever since his Replacement Girl track, what was I in like 10th grade? My point still stands simply that I'm just defending his point of view.

  • @msSUNSHINE2012 Actually she was 8 years older than Drake, and he was on Degrassi from 2001.

  • @ArtisticRemedy101 Older LP's? He only has 2 and when you wrote this comment, his first had come out just a year ago. You're deluded...

  • @JellyTotMwah1001xx umm aaliyah is like 10 or 15 years older than him and unfortunaly aaliyah died before he was even on degrassi

  • Drake is really right about her music. You rarely heard Aaliyah use, "BOY" or "MAN" in her songs...or "him". She made music I feel comfortable singing all the time and she did keep it G
