Damjan Zabovnik & Sam Whittingham 1-h duel at Ford Proving Grounds, Michigan (by Aleksej Dolinsek)

19th July, 2009, two fastest men with two fastest vehicles on the Earth competed one against another at the same time. Damjan started with higher pace, Sam had the stronger finish. Sam was more fortunate, setting the new world 1-hour record, covering 90,6 km. Damjan was previous world record holder with 87,1 km. Damjan overheated and abandoned after full 9 laps (49 minutes) and change (another 3 minutes) due to sunshine (greenhouse effect). If we compare Damjan's and Sam's time at 9th lap, Sam's advantage was 34 seconds there. In Damjan's opinion his bike has a better design, it is absolutely faster. But he is not as good athlete as Sam. He is still convinced that if some a little more powerful cyclist tries his Eivie II, he could beat Sam + Varna Tempest combination. The designer and builder of Sam's bike, Georgi Georgiev (Varna) shares the same opinion with Damjan.

I'd agree Damjans bikes is an amazing design, and he's a top bloke.

We were so glad he could come to the World Champs in England last year. Pity we couldn't give him a fast enough track.
