@TheObserver1999 why don't you give us a practical demonstration of the immense musical knowledge that lets you judge accomplished musicians irrespectfully? I want to hear your wonderful music...
Marwa is one of the most important raags - there is an entire thaat named after it. I have always found it disturbing, unsettled, rootless-sounding. All of the great masters have played it - Raiskhan, Vilayat Khansaheb, Shujaat Khan. This, however, is the only performance of Marwa I've ever heard in which the raag sounded comprehensable, even beautiful to me. Wah, wah, Shahidji!
Three observations: 1. Poor miking. Note the placement of that SM58. SP has a great sounding sitar if heard live or even in well-made recordings. 2. Note the phrase at 3.34 that screams "I've not been taught Marwa!". Its a bona fide Pooriya component. 3. He tends to avoid the Sa almost totally, resulting in a lack of resolution. Ideally, one should use the Sa sparingly, but after building up tension in an area, the mohra must be preceded by a landing on the Shadaj.
beautiful!
