True the engine was not the best performer but it was designed for fuel economy. It got the job done though.

@jakesaintsrow123 I had an 87 2 door square body... I jumped it over train tracks, floored it everywhere I went, and it still had plenty of power and got Awesome gas mileage... I bought a 1990 z24 with the 3.1 v6, and it was AWESOME!

The 2.0L engines in these were slow but Pretty reliable

You have to look at the time and the cars that were similar. 88 hp was very respectable for that time.
