I always liked the Shadowrun did exactly what Cyberpunk did. Blended. Created Juxtapositions. The magical and the mundane. The hyperadvanced, coupled with the basest instincts of humanity. Wonderous environments, coupled with soul-crushing mundanity.

Basically, think of our modern word, starting in the 80s. We're developing into a Cyberpunk world, with the net, cybernetics, genetic engineering, massive megacorperations, etc. USSR comes back, the USA splits into a few separate nations, there's a small nuclear war. At some point, magic returns to the world. A bunch of dragons wake up (one eventually being voted in as President), and children are born that resemble elves/dwarves. About 10% of humanity mutate into Orcs and Trolls.
