While visiting St. Croce in Florence, an organist was playing. This church houses the tombs of Michaelangelo, Rossini (the composer), and Galileo. The organ facade did not look too impressive, but the console was nice.

  • I have played this pipe organ many years it does. It's a big instrument! It has 4 manuals, 110 ranks, 7.000 pipes around...

  • The organist there that day was playing Bach chorales- mostly from Orgelbüchlein. The sound filled the church nicely, but I was hoping he would play something will more volume. One day, I would love to play such an instrument!

  • I am sorry tell you that it are improbable succeed to play that organ. If the actual organist is again P. Ermanno Vandelli, he is very jealous of that instrument! I instead am very contented of do to play "my" organ to all!

Excuse me for my English... I don't speak English... I use a dictionary for translation...

  • I understand your English! Thank you!

  • I was wondering if it would be possible to play this organ, I am spending a week in Forence soon and wish to have some practice, even if it means to pay for it, who can help me ?

  • Nice church, though I wish the visitors would have been quieter when talking or walking about.

Pity that you didn't get a picture of the organ-console - I'd have liked to have seen it!

  • as far as I know, P Ermanno Vandelli was transferred in another region some months ago because his jaulosy about the organ was too much for other priests of that church.

Both cases of the organ are in Renaissance style, but the ancient one is the right one (built on design by GIORGIO VASARI in 17th Century) even if it was altered and enlarged in 1927. Left one was built in 1927 in the same style of the ancient one.
