Probably run on a stump of old wooden pile . Loads of those - people have been sticking poles in for ever , they all rot at water level , break off , and leave the stump below the surface . Also , there are a few inches rise and fall of water level , depending on the tide , weather conditions and recent rain history .
What there ISNT is any form of riptide , that's Balls frankly .
Little bit of current , sure , but less than 1 mph .
i have caught pike from that very turn know it like the back of my hand and the small riverlets that run into it on the other side... i also know there is a very strong rip tide that pulls right past there mabey you got dragged? even so why moor or even drive side on too a rip tide i have been rowing that sinse i was 8!
