The 5th installment of Heavy Metal and Yoga. This is on the principles laid out by Lord Buddha, the enlightened one. It is a contemporary view of The 3 Practices, 4 Noble Truths, 5 Precepts and The Eightfold path of Righteousness.
Included are quotes by The XIV Dalai Lama, a total rock star in my opinion!
2 Buddhist chants.
Music from Black Sabbath, Metallica, Disturbed, sOiL and Puddle of Mudd.
Enjoy!

  • I never thought of it that way..but it actually is!

  • The 5 M's of the Tantric buddhism - meat ,wine, sex etc. are pretty much the equivalent of the modern sex,drugs,roq-n-roll of the rock-yogis.

  • I call it a story, but it is more of a legend, like the virgin birth of Christ is a connotation of his mother's purity, and that if she wear soiled by sex she could not bare God's son. There are stories of a man living in a whale..These are all just stories to help guide us along our journeys...Are they real? Yes, the stories are...But they are stories.

  • And yes, the Mahabharata and Gita are stories of enlightenment meant to teach us of such. The battle of Kurukshetra might have been real, and the Story of Arjuna and Dirodhana(?) sitting at opposing ends of Krishna's bed, to have him help in the battle. Krishna knew that Dirodhana was hungry for power, and Arjuna wanted peace. It can be ascertained that Dirodhana was the Ahamkara and Arjuna was the quest for Sannyasa; Lord Krishna is the Lord of Yoga.

  • I also belive the books are important, otherwise I wouldn't read so many. It was a bbok that got me into yoga actually. What I am saying is, yoga didn't start from a book, or a teacher(human), it comes from living. The heart is the soul center. it is the middle 4th chakra. People think Ajna and Sahsrara are the "Yogi" Chakras, in that only yogis attain such heights in the lotus.

  • Actualy, without the books yoga would not have survived. The books are important, and a real teacher is important. The heart is whimsical, and if noone tells the heart to discipline and calm down the mind, then what does it matter the heart is free... it will just take us from one fascinating thing to the next endlessly. Gurdjieff once said, forget about love...find direction first. Then later u can experience real love.

  • So now it is only a story ..;) How do u know what most yogi's and ascetics reach? And how can you compare with what Arjuna reached.? Be carefull not to make asumptions on your own speculations and then take that as the truth. That is not fact. Speak from your own experience, or the mind will take you for a sightseeing spin!

  • Last thing, we can learn a lot from the ancient texts, but as you have noted, they were written in a different era, and are now subject to much interpretation. Yoga does not come from books, it comes from the heart.

"We live not by the breath that flows in and out,

But by Him who causes the breath to flow in and out"

    Katha Upanishad II.2.5

    Namaste Brother CT

  • I hope your right ;)...

  • This is true, but this is also a story. The last thing krishna says is "Have I dispelled the delusions of your ignorance". I think it is quite easy considering krishna took him inside of His consciousness. Most yogi's or ascetics never reach such planes.
