This 36 second movie clip shows a demonstration of powering a model aircraft with an infrared laser beam.

Flights of the lightweight, radio-controlled model airplane inside a large building at NASA Marshall are believed to be the first time that a plane has been powered only by laser energy. The demonstration was a key step toward the capability to beam power to an aircraft, allowing it to stay in flight indefinitely -- a concept with potential for the scientific community as well as the remote sensing and telecommunications industries.

  • there are aircraft that will be available for the military in few years from now. They take flight by using lasers to take flight :) I seen it on a video

  • so wattsup with harvesting thousands of square km of light and beaming it right down to for use here?

  • no it would be better to resort to low frequency radio, like the tesla wireless energy system, i put up info if you need help understanding the real wireless energy system, laser light and high frequency is very inefficient to energy transfer to remote places, if something gets in the way of it then it stops working, teslas system could send energy anywhere even to planets. i put it up on my youtube even a basic test

  • Tried this with a real aeroplane

didn't work, they crashed and died and called me a terrorist

  • You know that humanity will be powering lunar bases in such a way...

  • o.k....I have been doing research for months and months trying to figure out this "ufo" that flew over my house one night (without making a sound) and it looked excatly like this model. Hmmmm.

  • Bad Ass.

  • OK that qualifies as the most awesomenest model aircraft EVAR!~
