One of the great joys of my career was to work with Philly legend Eddie Holman. We first recorded this song as a single on Nightmare Records in 1988. Never satisfied with it, I had another go at it in 1998, ten years later, making it less Disco and more Northern Soul. It started to attract attention on the CD release on Goldmine, New Northern Soul For A New Millenium. And then we put it out as a limited edition seven inch along with the launch of The Strange World Of Northern Soul. Trying to find a copy of that seven inch now, is like trying to find gold dust. Eddie recorded a video for it in Philadelphia for us, but forgot half the words, so when he came over to do an allnighter in Lowton, I went up there with several friends, and during his rehearsals, shot the video for a second time.

  • Where can I find this on CD or vinyl? I have JJ Barnes version that you produced with him on Motorcity label, but I can't find Eddie's version.

  • @j50t - It's on the triple CD set, "Reaching For The Very Best" that you can order on Amazon.

  • My praise to anyone in the U.K. that has worked to give these fantastic artists finally the recognition they really deserve. The few soul singers and musicians I have ever met can't believe it when they come over here to the U.K. Very different from the States where they tend to forget you if you haven't had a hit record for longer than about three weeks.

  • So great, this mix. Love JJ's version too.

  • Stunning!!! Absolutely Northern Soul!!!
