Hi.
I was one of the boys in this performance. It's such a beautiful piece. Thank you for bringing back the memories.

@fionaparl Just wanted to add to that - in Elijah the three parts are meant to represent a trio of angels, and these boys definitely gave an angelic performance!

@robbokop Congratulations, you all did a beautiful job!

Do you still remember this song?

@KCLAX2012 This piece was not written for bases or baritones

Well, Mendelssohn wrote this for trebles only; that's what makes it really stand out beautifully in the midst of the oratorio for full chorus and orchestra, being only for trebles and a-capella.

I would say it has THE best bar none and the biggest. Alongside more than 30 cathedral choirs there are many superb school and collegiate choirs, plus untold youth choirs of all descriptions performing ot the very highest standards. Do you ever se them on TV - virtually never. It's the nation's best kept secret. Oh yes, then there are all the youth bands and orchestras too. Any room for them in the TV schedules. No. Britain's TV executives prefer bombarding the nation with dross.

You would think not. The UK has one of the best schools of choral performance in the world. I will never forget The Choir of Westminster Abbey singing Brahm's Requiem, 4th movement for someone's funeral. Just devine!
KCLAX2012 and notyobs - I'm afraid you both missed the point! - This is a chorus from Mendelsohn's oratorio 'Elijah'. Ths chorus was writen for only 3 parts - first and second soprano and alto only. Lovely piece!

@fionaparl Thanks to you - and to AgnesRegina - for that information.

this music is good but the higher pitched voices are too overused. the conductor should've balanced it more by adjusting it so baritones and bases could sing as well.

You've missed the point of this, which is that it's a performance by the boys only. The full choir would of course have performed this usually, but for the purposes of the TV programme this is from it was a performance by the boys only and it's superb.
