@florah3 Contrary to popular belief, a geisha is NOT a prostitute. A geisha would be an entertainer, a companion of sorts to men. She would have to be able to carry conversation, play instruments, sing, pour tea, know etiquette, tell jokes, etc.. They would begin training at a very young age, some as young as 9. Geisha could flirt with their guests, but they were at all times in control and they were not to sleep with them (although of course, I imagine some did).

I love how the director followed the book nearly line for line. Didn't ruin the integrity of it at all.
