Title: ODE TO A CHRISTMAS TREE (2011)
Director: Sarah Kim

Ben (5) and Borah (8), home alone one January day, decide to get rid of their aging Christmas tree. However, because it's too big to simply throw away, they must get creative in disposing of it. Soon, the living room is covered with fir needles, and the children fall into a slumber, thinking about the incident.

"THE SHORT LIST" is curated by ANDERSON LE, artistic director for both the Hawaii International Film Festival and the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, and airs Fridays at Noon EST.

it's like a horror movie for christmas trees

I remember a while back reading an article of how an American GI living in S. Korea murdered his Korean girlfriend....chopped her up....and disposed of her down the trash chute....I noticed the director of this short film is Korean...maybe the tree is symbolic of that korean lady?

I watched a story similar to this growing up (early 70's?) Not quite as "Dexter" like, but still, a Christmas story from the tree's perspective. Sure wish I could find it!

For me, I see it it as during christmas, a lot of people chop down trees to use as a christmas tree. We decorate them, see them as beautiful and are surrounded with happiness. When it's over, the scenario changes and we just dipose of the tree, sometimes as brutaly as those kids.The pieces left behind are like blood platters that would be left behind from any human. We don't respect nature as we do our own species, which is why people don't see the killing of trees as murder, or a massacre.
