Surfing in Japan's Ocean Dome

Artificial beach, trees, and surf... what more can you ask for. Grab your surfboard! I used to live near the Ocean Dome in Southern Japan, its ironic that the Ocean Dome is a 5min drive from the real beach.

how big do you think they could make these waves? like itd be cool to have a HUGE surf competition if they could get the waves big enough

@bmxretracked I think they can pump out double over head with a solid face! I read somewhere that the normal day-to-day wave was only 40% of what the system could actually do.

Yes, unfortunately the Dome was closed officially on October 2007 :(

@thelongwander why did they close it??? that could be a great place for people to learn to surf...although it will be difficult when they experience the real thing

@surferdude4261 I believe in the beginning they actually allowed people to surf, but later made it a show and everyone had to exit the water and eventually it closed due to lack of revenue.

honestly they only have these huge wave pools in japan!!!

it was closed not because there are not enough surfers in japan (cuz there definitely is) it was closed cuz the thing was huge and the pumps and stuff cost way to much.
