A student in Basra she helped victims of the war
While he distributed water to the locals
Though Christian and Muslim they soon became good friends
Till somebody saw them passing the time of day
Then Rand Abdel-Qader was killed by her father
For shaming and dishonoring his name
First he stomped on her then he suffocated her
And he stabbed her to death as he screamed at her and cursed her
When her mother heard her cries she called out to her own two boys
Who ran to help their father kill their sister
They wrapped her up in a cloth and spitting on her corpse
They threw her into a grave beyond the cemetery
Nobody said a prayer and nobody shed a tear
They wanted to obliterate her memory
When the police arrested him they laughed and they shook his hand
They slapped him on the back and sent him home
They said they understood
They agreed she was no good
She got what she deserved and nothing more
When her terrified mother tried to run he beat her up and broke her arm
Though she said he had never been violent to her before
She got away and she got a divorce but still her sons try to force
Her to come back by calling her a whore
In his garden in Basra surrounded by his gerberas
He blames the whole affair on the genes of his wife
He's proud of himself but yet he does have one regret
That on the day she was born he did not take her life

The story of this girl and her mother breaks my fucking heart. We went to Iraq in the hopes that it would be a better place for us having been there. I hope the soldier never gets identified/finds out. If I were him I wouldn't be able to live for the guilt. It wasn't his or her fault but the fault of the culture over there. To call it "honour" is a sick joke. And people presume to judge us for going to war against such a culture . . .

@iraqiGak47 - She did not "fuck" the soldier she spoke to him on a few occasions in public at a charity she was volunteering at to help displaced families find a home and he was handing out water to them. The mother is now also dead shot to death for speaking out against her daughters murder. All i can say is you have to be pretty barbaric to be happy about a little virgin girl being murdered for talking to someone while helping other Iraqis.

Poor girl. She was so pretty & so innocent. She had it all going 4 her & 2 have that brutally taken away from her, so sad. My heart goes out 2 her. At least she's in heaven now, & her mother too. Her mother is a hero, & I'd do the same if i were in her shoes, no matter how dangerous it may be. RIP Rand & Leila. U r in heaven, & deserve to be in heaven, not in brutal, cruel Iraq!
