Vitamin B12 deficiency is rare in the young, but it's not unusual in older people: Probably 10 to 20% of the elderly are deficient in B12. This may be because older people have lower levels of stomach acid. The vitamin B12 in our food comes attached to proteins, and must be released by acid in the stomach in order to be absorbed. When stomach acid levels are low, we don't absorb as much vitamin B12 from our food. Fortunately, vitamin B12 supplements don't need acid for absorption, and should therefore get around this problem.

  • Is this liposomial methylcobalmin?

  • No, there is no liposomal mechanism. It's water soluble methylcobalamin.

  • On a side note, it is impossible for B12 to be absorbed in the mouth or mucosal glands. B12 absorption requires a protein from the salivary gland, and requires stomach acid to help break down B12 so that it can form a complex with an intrinsic factor in the stomach. This is required before it can be absorbed by a B12-specific receptor in the ileum, which is towards the end of the small intestine.

Bottom line: this product is bogus

  • @VedicResurrection You need to stop conspiracy theorizing and educate yourself. B12 is unique in that it is only found (in food) in animal products, and it was discovered in 1948. It's not a "new" thing. This is why vegans need supplementation because vegan protein sources and plant products do not contain B12. You can have permanent neurological damage from a B12 deficiency, including nerve degeneration and paralysis. You don't need injections, just take a supplement.

  • @VedicResurrection Agree with you. I'm vegan for 20 plus years no lack of energy here, workout 3 times pert week, & run 20km. So called B12 deficiency is also prevalent in people who eat non-animals.

The other issue here would be the use of fire to process our food, this denatures the nutrient content of our food making it toxic. Better to avoid a diet of predominantly cooked foods.

More peoples health is adversely effected by eat animals & their by-products than that of a vegan diet.

  • I know a vegan who ended up in the hospital because of pernicious anemia (vit. B12 deficiency). Now he eats some cheese. I prefer to have sublingual methylcobalamin. Some vegans eat enough dirt in their diet to get B12, if they don't have a problem with absorbtion. I was diagnosed low in B12 by a blood test. My legs hurt so much sometimes I couldn't stand it. I was not vegan at the time; I ate fish and eggs, but I was not absorbing B12. Don't just think, read and learn.

  • Used to agree with vegetarians, no need for b12 supp or meat product. Recently a friend had a real scare, could barely walk and the doctor told her she must have b12 injections and start eating meat. The recovery was just amazing.

  • lol! wow. Thats interesting.

  • I'm a vegan and I don't take any supplements. I know a man who has been a vegan for 30 years and he never take B12 and he does fine. He's 50 and have the body and the stamina of an 18 year old athlete. I think this B12 bullshit came from the meat and dairy industry to scare vegans and potential vegans. Remember, these are the same people who told vegans in the early days of the movement that plants don't have enough protein to support the human body. We now know that's a lie! Think!
