Colleen Caldwell from NMSU's Fish, Wildlife and Conservation Ecology department studies silvery minnows which is a native fish that lives in the Rio Grande. In 1994 the fish was listed as endangered and by the year 2000 there were no minnow eggs produced in the wild. Because of this the A-Mountain Geothermal Fish Culture and Research Facility was established.
