  • after seeing that so many times, it still confuses the fuck out of me.

  • for example. 1960 presidential debate between NIxon and John F. Kennedy. Nixon tripped over his words and was sweating the entire debate, Kennedy was well maintained. People who heard it on the radio said that Nixon won, while people who saw the debate on TV agreed that Kennedy won. The technology that sends the message determines its outcome.

  • sure t

  • @AutoStigmata Mcluhan defines "media" as anything that extends human senses, so a hammer (extension of the arm) is media just as much as television is. The lightbulb is an extension of the eyes, allows work to continue after sundown; it has amplified human productivity simply by conquering the dark.

  • How are lightbulbs an information medium? It always cut off right there.

  • i'm still trying to figure out what he mean, after all these years

  • @1kah1 It is the same actor - Cedric Smith

  • is it just me or does it sound like the actor who plays professor mcluhan, is the same guy who voiced professor xavier in the 90's x-men cartoon?

  • @1955Doodlebug I think it's supposed to be like that. It's just poorly edited. These are part of a series of educational 'advertisements' for Canadians.

  • Does anyone know the origin of this piece? Is it part of a longer video? This seems truncated at the end.

  • I'd say what is important is how the medium is used to deliver the message.

  • The student who says "The medium is the message? What does that mean?" - his name is Mark Polley, and he's the brother of Sarah Polley, of the Road to Avonlea series fame. Used to work with him in the early 90s. First time I saw this, I nearly jumped out of my skin. Never expect to see someone I know on TV like this!
