Today's tip: Always look to SCORE! It's one thing to want to score, but you have to have the mentality that you are going to score and that you're going to make it happen for yourself. To be a great offensive player, you need to aggressively attack the basket and think "score first." When you do this, you not only open up shots for yourself, but also for your teammates. That's because you will draw defenders off of them and onto you, which will leave them open for an even better look than the one you were trying to create. At that point, you simply have to deliver the ball to them and get ready for the next time down the court!

  • hey coach i have been playing basketball for a while now but i am now on my first team. the game seems to move so fast if you know what i mean, when i touch the ball i get nervous to make mistakes and i just pass it off how do i make the game slow down mentally

  • @NoWallsNoBorders Experience slows the game down for you. Give it a few weeks and you should notice that it gets easier.

  • @naruto23471472 you always want to think basket first, BUT that doesn't mean force it. You want to make smart decisions about creating your shot, but be prepared to dump it off to a teammate when you draw the defense or they have a better look.

If you're thinking PASS first, then you will never be a great offensive threat. Do you think Michael Jordan, Kobe, or Larry Bird were thinking, "I got to pass this ball as soon as I can..." They were thinking, "Get the SCORE!"

  • @NoWallsNoBorders There are a few of things that can change the pace of the game.

Ex. Ballhandler can slow down the game by just standing and protecting the ball making the defense think your running a play.

Ex. The Defense can pressure you (Double Team) and force you to move the ball quickly.

But what I`ve learned is you need the defender to respect you, (Dribble, Shot, and Drive) then your in full control of the game.

  • @doudou151991 Thank you for your interest. Please help us out by "Spreading the Word!"
