actually yes, a p80 is goo for a rookie. once you get the hang of what your doing and your taking really good photos with p80. then you can move to an slr. An slr does take better pictures than a p80 but you dont need that kind of quality if your a starter.
the p80 is better if you do not want to spend the money on a DSLR because the cheapest DSLR i have seen is $500 and i have found the p80 for as cheap as $250 but based on quality, the DSLR's are much better

True, but you will quickly out grow the p80. Then you'll be in the hole for your DSLR fund.

No, get a nikon d40 or a canon Rebel xs. Those are far better just because they're DSLRs
