In the side impact, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door at 50 km/h. In the pole test, the car tested is propelled sideways at 29km/h into a rigid pole.
@Jubbbbb i have v40 - belive mi it's not more reliable - 406 - was way better in reliability - but true - s/v40 was a lot safer

@ZilogJones Yes, 100% sure, there was even sign written on the side of the seats. Now I own P 407 with 8 air bags, I hope they're deployable :)

@Jubbbbb: Safer maybe, more reliable? I doubt it. Also the S40 is a lot smaller, I wouldn't consider them in the same size class at all.

@atemlos2585: The 406 never had side curtain airbags, just front side torso airbags which are deployed from the seats like in the video above. They were also not fitted as standard, are you sure your seats even had them?

Not very good. I just had accident in my 2002 406 break,women hit me on a side pretty hard,side curtains didn't deploy,car is totalled.

The S40 is noticably safer and probably more reliable.

+large boot space
+equipment
+it is going without major repairs, so far (only turbine require regeneration - now it`s ok)
-front of the car is to heavy (due to diesel engine)
-car is relatively low suspended
