The song is "Disco Lady" by Johnnie Taylor. I wonder why he decided to sing "baby" instead of "lady"?

@funzjag It is The Paul Lynde Halloween Special. You can find in on DVD. And it's the very first appearance of KISS on TV.

My guess is that it was a way of honoring his being so obviously gay. There is a scene in the show where he plays a truck driver who goes after a woman. He plays it with real camp.
He was one of the few TV performers who did not have to "come out". There simply was no way he could ever be "in".
