It wasn't even difficult to start one. An EV1 Experience is video I took while renting a GM EV1 from evrentals at LAX in 2002 before they were crushed. http://www.seattleeva.org/wiki/GM_EV1 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Motors_EV1

  • What's the song playing there?

  • Van Halen, Finish What Ya Started... Fitting no? It just happened to be on the radio at the time.

  • you drove a 5 minuite walk down the street?

  • Yes we drove it about two blocks in the morning, then we drove to the beach, then up the coast, and then to a movie, I think we did about 120 miles that day.

  • Ahhh i thought you were being "American" and driving somewhere where it'd be quicker on foot

  • Well actually... The reason that I was driving the car is because I went on a ~2000 mile road trip in my Insight Hybrid for the sole purpose of renting this EV1 for a day before they were crushed and I missed out on the chance to ever drive one. It's sad what GM did to that car. It had the same 2 seats capacity but was much more "peppy" than mine, I'd love to be driving an EV1 instead of my dirty Insight ;O I would have probably created a range extending gas engine trailer for long trips.

  • WHat I find quite amusing is that now, GM is getting bailed out by the government, because they are losing money like a shitfest. Really? Whats funny is that they had the chance to lead the way in almost everything. They said no, and everyone else jumped in and GM just decided to start making horrible interiors for fun.

  • Have you watched 'Who killed the electric car'?

GM will probably do the same. They have taxpayers money now. It's a carrot and donkey affair. They'll dangle the Volt until fuel costs come down and then say 'Oh, you don't really need this electric car now sir, however we do have this Hummer on special offer' Jokers.

  • @TheFlatBat but at least, now they are selling the damn car, not just leasing it, and having the chance to take them back and crushing them.

  • @TheFlatBat And now you know why I aint buyin one.

  • It was really stupid of GM to kill this car. I'm glad to see there are still some lurking in real life, running or not. :-)

  • i bet gm is kicking there ass now.... even tho they have the volt

  • @TheFlatBat

THANK YOU!! Glad I'm not the only one who saw that (ie. Who Killed the Electric Car) and knows why car companies are still in the past instead of the future!! Sadly the only way to fix it is to not buy gasoline powered cars, but we all know that is impossible, unless you live in NY.. If it wasn't for monopolies like the oil companies, maybe our government and car companies wouldn't be so corrupt!!

  • dude.. that interior LOOKS AWESOME!!!

  • @Jones240 - Haha, it's funny cuz you're trying to start some internet drama but no one's really caring xD

  • @s2000julius

It used large lead-acid batteries, so to keep the car from being tail or nose heavy, some of the batteries were stored in the middle of the car, necessitating the large console.

  • must be a quiet ride...

  • Since it has no transmission, why is there such a huge center divider between driver and passanger. Is it the same for the rear passangers too? Also, the shape makes it look ridiculous and those buttons inside could have been simplified to just a handful. It's not a fighter jet to say the least, so no need to mimic a cockpit...
