In fact a drum horse is a Gypsy crossed with a Shire or a Clydesdale (usually). It gives a stronger and taller horse (warhorse) but you loose some feathers and mane cause there is no other breed that can get as much mane and feathers then Gypsys and this trait is on a recessive gene so you loose some as soon as you mix them with other breeds.

He was in England in one off the stables of the Queen before being sold to Black Forest Gypsy Shire in the USA.
