I translate Hmong songs into English as a pastime I do, but I do it in all seriousness. I do do my research when translating unfamiliar phrases (parents, friends, teacher, etc...) and try my best to keep the words as exact as possible while still trying to maintain the song's poetic sense. However, there are some cases where I cannot translate the Hmong phrases into exact English without confusion so I do substitute certain words. Keep in mind as well, there are sometimes more than one ways to translate something. Not only that, some phrases, analogies, metaphors and such are unique to a culture so when translating them into English it may sound awkward or even confusing but don't let that stop you from enjoying the song.

I started translating songs as a way for me to further develop my knowledge of my Hmong language, so I'm still (and will always be) in the process of learning.

"Muaj txoj hmoo koj daim ntawv nws ntuag" -- Recive such luck, that your 'paper' tore would be a literal translation... in the hmong culture there is a belief, when people are born, their life/fate' is written upon a piece of paper. It's hard to explain fully, but this lyric here is trying to convey how his partner's 'paper' was torn, and as a consequence their love begins to fall apart.

Also, the idea of tears turning to blood is to convey deep regret and remorse i believe.

*edit--@1:02 "hnub twg hnov suab qeej NRUAS nrov" --hearing the sounds of the qeej and drum--speaking of the funeral. Hmong listerner should understand. the qeej is an instrument played at the funeral as well as the sound of drums.
