Red throat emperor are one of the amazing fish you'll encounter on the Great Barrier Reef, Here's some great footage of a recent fishing trip and extended charter to the Hardline group of reefs about 200 kilometres offshore. Some awesome fishing with Red throat emperor in plague proportions. We caught a heap of Red throat emperor and bagged out with everybody onboard, and also caught coral trout, red emperor, red bass and heaps more. Even a couple of sharks which are always present and take and easy fish. They know the prime reef fish as well and leave the ones you don't want, such as mowong and chinamen fish, But that's fishing.
They're a beautiful fish with rich red markings, bite baits and soft plastics well, and fight hard. Also great eating and a highly prized catch. Also referred to as sweetlip as well. Red throat emperor are found throughout the great barrier reef and make up a large majority of most people's catch, readily taking baits such as squid, pilchards and flesh. When they're on, they're on and big catches can be made. You don't get too many complaints when they're 2 kg + fish, and well worth the effort.
Please subscribe for more great fishing action, tips and news!!
Cheers Greg

    Cheers Greg

  • ok well , to me these red throat arnt that big cause on one session at the GBR we where catching 10 - 20 red throat all about 60 - 80cm

  • Sound like great size red throat emperor at 80cm, but these were pretty good and great eating, no one was complaining and some top reef fishing,

    Cheers Greg

  • @Reefari well it looked great :) better than being stuck on dry land working

  • The first couple were average red throat, just showing the poor fish which got smashed by a shark, but the others were good quality at a couple of kilo, and a bad day fishing definately beats a good day at work for sure,

    Cheers Greg
