I celebrated my college graduation in May 1966 on the Illini Railroad Clubs annual Colorado Narrow Gauge Excursion. The trip left Chicago behind CB&Q Mike #4960 to Galesburg. Diesel power from there to Denver, through the Moffat Tunnel, over Tennessee Pass, through the Royal Gorge, down to Walsenburg, and over LaVeta Pass to Alamosa where we transferred to the narrow gauge for the trip to Durango with side trips to Farmington, NM and Silverton, CO. I believe that was the last excursion of its kind. This little clip, converted from 8mm by my own very low tech Off-the-Wall Digital Conversion Service, features the portion of the trip from Alamosa to Antonito. As soon as I can get a state-of-the-art conversion done I will share the whole experience.

My family was moving from St. Paul to Taos via Alamosa in 1966, just about the time this was taken.
My 11 month old daughter loves it, she thinks it's funny.

Gothpapa, I, too, was on this trip at the ripe old age of 15! One small correction on your date. The trip departed Chicago behind 4960 on Sunday, June 12, 1966. The trip from Alamosa to Durango behind K-36 #483 would have been on Tuesday, June 14, 1966. Thanks for posting. Please put up some more footage of this trip.
