In the Tale of the Pinyin Pirate 拼音海盗人, the 2CC teach you how to pronounce the retroflex sounds 卷舌音 in Mandarin Chinese, represented in the Pinyin Romanization system as: zh- (zhi), ch- (chi), sh- (shi), r- (ri) & -r (er).

The Two Chinese Characters (2CC) are John B. Weinstein & Carsey Yee. Video produced by Jamie Ciocco.

  • Hilarious! I've been learning Mandain for 4 years and still cant quite get the "r" sound reliably - this helps immensely. I'm passing this on to my Mandarin cell- err XXXX class - mates next year. Great Stuff!.. Arrrrrrr

  • Vaguely disturbing, and stupid as hell - but helpful i guess :P I'm married to a native mandarin speaker and i still have trouble with the retroflex sounds...
