Dr. Michio Kaku, Theoretical Physicist: Fukishima Daiichi Nuclear Facility is a "Ticking Time Bomb"

The Japanese government is trying to calm fears about radiation levels and food safety in the region around the heavily damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power facility, even as it has raised the severity rating of the crisis to the highest possible level. "Radiation is continuing to leak out of the reactors, the situation is not stable at all," says Dr. Michio Kaku, professor of theoretical physics at the City University Of New York and the City College of New York, in an interview on Democracy Now! April 13. "The slightest disturbance could set off a full scale melt down at three nuclear power stations—far beyond what we saw at Chernobyl."

It is because political correctness has destroyed this country and brainwashed people. Kaku even though his family was interned in concentration camps isn't bitter about it.

To this day, most reactors in the world are still "Generation II" technology. Public fear of nuclear power is doing more harm than good in a way; safer, more reliable reactors which can never melt down (Even theoretically) could have been rolled out to replace the outdated models years ago, but sadly, the projects would almost surely never be greenlit.

As for the waste, the idea to put it a kilometre underground (Permanently) would be perfectly safe. Transporting it is really the only issue.

Now, going in to this, I don't want to pretend to be some kind of expert on nuclear physics, but I do know the history.

That said, nuclear power has the potential to be completely safe. Look up the CANDU some time; the only reason nuclear power is dangerous is because of how prolific the early reactors (Which lack the modern safeguards that have been available since the 70s) were. Fukishima had what is called a "Generation II" reactor, which was the very first commercially viable technology.

Sure. Even the most feeble-minded knows the US was the first to let the nuclear genie out of the bottle. Later, above-ground nuclear power-generation went world wide. And there still is no safe way to dispose of all the spent fuel, or for that matter, cool nuclear reactors should the electricity go out. The "Faustian. Bargain."
