ANCHOR:
With oil prices soaring at an all time high, prices may spike higher again after a Japanese oil tanker is attacked by pirates. The tanker has now docked at a port near Aden for repairs. Here's more on the story.

STORY:
The Japanese oil tanker Takayama docked near the Port of Aden on Tuesday, a day after suspected pirates fired at the ship. None of the twenty three crew on board were injured. Japanese media reported that the ship was hit by a rocket in the pirate-infested region. However, the damage was light enough that the tanker was able to continue its voyage. Ships are regularly attacked off Yemen. Pirates are blamed for thirty one cases of piracy recorded by maritime authorities last year in the Gulf of Aden, between Yemen and Somalia. The empty oil tanker was on its way from South Korea to load at a port in Saudi Arabia. Fighting between rebels and Yemen's U.S.-allied government has been raging on and off since 2004. The country is viewed as an al Qaeda haven by many in the West. There are frequent attacks on oil installations, government and military compounds, foreign tourists, embassies and ships. Located on the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula, it is one of the poorest countries in the world outside of Africa.

  • I want to be a pirate!

  • First of all, as a black man myself, I'm severely offended by your belief that African people should resort to common thievery just to survive. Second, the US is already over there doing "something about it." Third, you're using Castro as an example? Not all the foreigners are fishing in Somali waters. Most are just travelling or transporting. Besides, the Somali warlords are the ones making things "unfair." But you can believe whatever you want. I don't really care about debating this anymore.
