Here is our new "A'Lectric" Lime colored "Cruiser" sail! We're out in a Necky 18 foot tandem with rudder in about 5 knots of wind (real lite wind), flying the WindPaddle sail from the front of the boat. We are also tacking from starboard to port (right to left) doing about 3-4 knots over the water. The Pilot is sailing the WIndPaddle for the very first time, but being a windsurfer, she knows how to sheet the sail. In these lite winds we can sail downwind in about a 150 degree envelope. The stronger the winds the higher angles we can sail. Fun, huh?

  • Looks like fun to me. A lot easier than paddling too.

The pedant in me says "gybing, not tacking" and "reaching, not beating", but that's unimportant.

I'm planning a week-long trip with my brother some time soon and giving some serious thought to making/using something similar to this to get us along on the windier/lazier days. Is it always flown and constantly tended by hand like that or can it be cleated off on a thwart/gunnel and left to fly?
