  • I agree that fast is not always better. In transposing some of Wes Montgomery's solos, I have found some beautiful melodies that are not digested by the listener as well as if they were played a little slower. In my own style I will always value melody over speed.

  • It's always played fast... why are people surprised it's fast?

  • what's the point of playing that fast???. Isn't it just to please your ego instead of developing effective communication through your art?

  • @babinm ..because to be faster doesnt mean that you are better

  • @oldpython I must confess I hadn´t heard the clip when I replied - stupid. I heard the thing then and it´s not good. Kessel plays old swing style (not my favorite), but he plays very clear ideas and with a good time sense.

  • @yaclaus I agree with you but would you beable to notate this if you never heard the tune before? The relaion of time and intervals are implied very like Barny Kessel's solos were. He was also a great guitarist but his music wasnot easy to sing if you never heard it before. This gent obvoiusly could play the tune at any tempo and make it sound great. For sure! Thanks for the reply.

  • @oldpython Airegin´s a fast tune. Don´t think I´ve ever heard it below 160

  • @babinm fast is not good, it's fast. He obviously playing fast to prove something. Joe pass had a unique style. This sounds like Rob Conti another fast but not great guitarist. Jim Hall never plays fast but he is always great. @ 2:45 it sounds like a bad wedding band doing cocktails.

  • @babinm o.k . so as you see the fastest the famous? lol

  • Great vintage Carl Barry - he still sounds just as good today!
