I think Yoshi was going to be rideable in this game. That stage was called "Tutorial" in the beta version, and it had same music as the final menu. I think that was going to be a level, where you can test different things, and later meet them in the harder levels.

It is a polygon (2 triangles) but has had billboarding applied so it always faces the camera.

Two triangles make a square but because the texture contains transparency it appears round.
