Tobacco is gatewaydrug #1. If one gets over him/herself from the awful negative signals that the body warns them with from smoking saying ''this is poison'',the tendency would be easier to try something else that may have effect over the mind and/or body. 99% of drugaddicts start with smoking tobacco and drinking alcohol. The drugmotive-spectrum is big,recreative, selfmedication/habit to addiction to disease. Drugs can expand your life used wisely or foolish used destroy it.

Just because people who do hard drugs may have started with marijuana, does not mean that people who smoke marijuana are going to necessarily advance to hard drugs. everything is addictive... sort of.
Lets take weed; the "drug" itself is not addictive, but your mind may very well get addicted to it, because of the EPIC feeling it gives you (just like videogames, food, coffee, except smaller amounts of epicness).
With heroin on the other hand; it is the drug who creates an addiction in your body.
