Wilders hails acquittal as 'a victory for free speech'

The controversial Dutch politician Geert Wilders - head of the third largest party in the country's parliament - has been cleared of inciting racial hatred on screen and on the internet.




Speaking to reporters outside court, Wilders described it as not so much a personal victory, but a triumph for free speech in the Netherlands. Public debate allows for criticism of Islam. he added.




Clearing Wilders of the charges, the court said that, while offensive to Muslims, his views constituted part of a legitimate public debate.

@401RoadWarrior I didn't say anything about freedom of speech, but now that you mention it, I also do believe in his fundamental right to it.

My point is basically is that Wilders is a moron who leads a one-issue party. Nothing having to do with sensible politics. Most of the time, Wilders avoids debate and when he does debate, it almost always is about "his one issue".

I'm fine with criticism on Islam, but a political figure should have a wider interest then just trashing one group over & over.
