  • Because it is orbiting...they cant just put it anywhere, it has to be at the correct hight so that it goes into geostationary orbit ( 24 hour orbit) so it stays in one place...;)

  • Artificial intelligence refusing to make coffee for humans is an early warning sign for a robot uprising

  • @black00dice KILL IT! KILL IT WITH FIRE!

  • Why is the latino guy acting chinese?

  • Wouldn't it be better to put the Space Elevator in a very landlocked location? Somewhere with an average climate. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • lol!!! dr wang!!!

  • @mindprism The elevator lifts itself with some other energy source. Like, in the video it uses laser. So it won't exert a vertical force. But that said it still costs energy lol

  • @mumatua Yes that's true for the current space station that floats in the space. The station in the video is connected to the earth with the nanotube cable, whose tension is maintained by centripetal force. This means the height can vary, or more precisely it has to be much higher than the current space stations. But the animation in the video is kinda misleading... as the narration clearly says "62000 miles" that's 15 times of the earth's radius.

  • I don't like that future, actually the final solution is around years 2020-2022.

in year 2057 we'll be utopians.

  • now they make nanotubes much faster, but chllenge is the mass organisation of em.
