Wilco has been on the music scene for nearly two decades but, as Cynthia Bowers reports, they might be finally getting the mainstream popularity many say they deserve.

  • Wilco aren't mainstream successes because they haven't sold themselves out. They've remained true to themselves since day one and that's why they are so admired by their fans. I highly doubt you'll ever hear them on the Top 40 radio stations. Which is fine by me.

  • CISSY STRUT!! By The Meters!!!!

  • jeff is the fucking man

  • Fuck. My Dad was welder. A bit shit by comparison...

  • America's best kept secret. shhhh ;)

  • THanks to my friend who is 50 years old who gave me his Ipod and Wilco is on it as well as Ryan Adams and many many more amazing artists musicians I am so grateful for knowing my friend and getting turned on to Wilco

  • @dodie2casey Do you know what? I agree about the Mermaid Avenue recordings! Billy Bragg was the perfect coupling for that. As far as Son Volt's second configuration, I'm going to check that out. :)

  • @aefkjj Actually, Son Volt, especially in its second configuration, has done quite a bit of experimental stuff. Maybe more than I would like. But nothing that tests my patience quite like self-indulgent noise of "Less Than You Think." Not that I hate Wilco. I think the Mermaid Avenue albums were great. But there was a certain something in Uncle Tupelo's sound, especially on March and Anodyne, that I just don't hear in Wilco or Son Volt.

  • @dodie2casey I wouldn't say UT was much better or even better. But if you really like that sound you can listen to Son Volt. Jay is still playing the same lick.
