Possibly the hardest review I've had to make, with Fraps problems, a hurricane that killed my power, senior year school work, and the constant need to not sound like Fatman considering how much we talked about it together.

  • anything else watching this cuz its like 2$ on steam?

  • @MrCuckingFrazy Haha, I posted this on the Steam forums yesterday because of the sale and gained roughly 2,500 views. You're definitely not the only one.

  • @lneh Oh dear, that's a little frightening, considering the Dead Space 2 TV spots made half my brain cells commit suicide.

I'm too lazy to rewatch fifteen minutes of old footage to see what you're talking about. Example, perhaps?

  • @lneh dude... "visceral" is not bullshit marketing lingo. You're confusing it with real buzz words like "real-time adaptive AI" or any number of other terms made by developers and publicists to sell games. Give the reviewer a break.

  • @gnomechomskylives Oh silly me I thought he was talking about Visceral Games' marketing campaigns. I'm much more confident now.

  • I think this game would be easily made into something incredible with a sequel, since the good and the bad are so clearly defined and seperated.

  • @HardWarUK If you watch my other reviews, you'll find that I don't judge games based on budget--that's Gamespot's job--I judge games based on their quality. I laud Bastion for its combat and storytelling and I berate F.E.A.R. 2 for its deteriorating gameplay. I don't care about the budget so long as the developers put work into their product. Amnesia: The Dark Descent and the aforementioned Bastion are both excellent examples of low-budget titles shining immaculately.

  • If you pretend this is a beta, it might make you feel better. EYE seems like it could be this immensely epic game...after about 10 years of patches.

Also, the so-called "adaptive" and super awesome AI is bullshit. I'm hiding inside a building and somehow guys who are about 1000 yards away run straight to me en masse before I've even fired a single shot...on level 1. I guess if that's how you define "adaptive" uh...okay.

  • At the very least it can be said that the developers weren't afraid to experiment. It didn't all work out, but considering how good this game actually turned out despite some bizarre design choices, I have to say, it's still kind of an accomplishment. Ultimately, it can be very fun to play and that's what it all boils down to anyway.

  • for 10 euro on steam i think i will give this a try

  • Well some of your points I completely disagree on. other points I think you nailed dead on. +1 for you sir.

  • This game tears me apart in some ways. I want this game to be as polished as Deus Ex or Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and yet, I know if it were made by a bigger studio, it would lose some of it's charm in the process.

If I could somehow transfer this game's multiple sprawling maps, weapons, player character designs, and co-op play into Dues Ex: HR, I would. Hell, I've even fallen in love with EYE's strange leveling up system over HR. But it's a dream that will never come true.

  • @laifalbert

Or just a really good mod

  • It didn't really help the game that it came out around the same time as Deus Ex: Human Revolution, either.

  • @FunWithSexbad LAWL

  • Great review, clear, concise and well articulated thoughts. :)
