I do know what you're saying... But, in comparison to some places, we've got a pretty good deal.

Besides; a British Passport will still get you into almost any country in the world; so, we're still worth something.

You win about 'country is as good as its people' because when we visit a place, we usually say how good or bad the people were.

But it's still not free. Let's not forget parking enforcement, benefits being thrown away to the wrong people, lack of funding to charities and youth programs and list goes on. I've been places where councils really 'provide' for community and I just don't find that here (sadly). So not too proud still

A country is only as good as its people.The moment we give in and allow them to assume full control; its then we end up with Tyrants, and police-states. We've not fallen that far yet.

We do pay for it; but its cheaper than paying for street lighting & rubbish removal separately. :3

@CultureShockSix History is in the past. If the country right now was ruled by tyrants and it was the worst place in the world, you would not say "I'm proud to be British" due to its history.

The council does not clean the streets and pick up rubbish for free. We pay for that. We pay A LOT for that.

And I do strongly believe that a country is only as good its government. After all, they run it. I love the people, I hate the ones who rule, rob and control them

We have a proud history (which, coincidently is longer than 300 years), our engineers are the best in the world; Brunel had bridges by the age of 20, and Rolls Royce make some of the best engines in aerospace.

We founded two countries, our language is used universally; it was a Brit that wrote the internet;

The council cleans my streets and picks up the rubbish outside of my house.

But there's more to a country than Governments.
