The Security Forces have closed in on the No Fire Zone. They are on alert to liberate the trapped civilians.
Anura Dorakumbura is reporting from the area between the Forward Defence Line of the Security Forces and Puthumattalan North. There is no dearth of LTTE activities in the no fire zone. The Government has taken every possible measure for the safety and welfare of the Tamil civilians forcibly detained by the terrorists. The LTTE has no regard for them. Fleeing civilians said they are deprived of the food issued by the Government. The LTTE activities are rife within the No Fire Zone located in front of the FDL. The LTTE terrorists are moving across the Zone 24 hours of the day in vehicles and motor cycles.
The oad to Chalai between Mullaitivu and Putumattalan is located across the No Fire Zone. The LTTE is holding the civilians on either side of the road. They use it to avoid attacks from the troops. The Army abstains from firing at the Zone to avoid civilian casualties. The terrorists, in the past few days, opened fire at the 58th and 53rd Divisions from the Zone. Firing has not ceased completely. The troops maintain vigil on activities in the Zone.

The Charles Anthony Memorial Hall where bodies of dead LTTE leaders are kept to pay last respects was also detected. Bodies of those cadres above the rank of Lieutenant Colonel are kept in the hall.
